Sydney Counsellor Recommends Mindfulness-Based Therapies to Reduce Anxiety

Leading Sydney-based counsellor recommends mindfulness-based therapies as a way to reduce stress and anxiety that affects a large percentage of the Australian population.

Sydney, Australia - February 14, 2018 /PressCable/ —

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia with 1 in 4 Australians experiencing some form of stress and/or anxiety at some point. Mindfulness-based therapy as offered by Paul Jozsef Counselling and Psychotherapy is a proven method to reduce the symptoms of anxiety.

While stress and worry are common responses to situations where one may feel emotional pressure, it usually passes once the stressful situation has been resolved, or ‘stressor’ has been removed.

For mild symptoms of anxiety, lifestyle changes, such as regular physical exercise and reducing one’s stress levels may help. For levels of anxiety that begin to impact on one’s life, psychological and/or mindfulness interventions may be beneficial.

Paul Jozsef Counselling & Psychotherapy offers mindfulness-based therapies for the treatment of stress and anxiety in Surry Hills, Sydney.

Mindfulness refers to the mental process that can be characterised by a state of nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment experience, including one’s physical sensations, thoughts, awareness, while encouraging openness, curiosity, and acceptance.

The basic premise underlying mindfulness practices is that experiencing the present moment nonjudgmentally and openly can effectively counter the effects of stressors because excessive orientation toward the past or future when dealing with stressors can be related to feelings of anxiety.

A review of 47 clinical trials involving more than 3,500 participants with mild anxiety found that those who underwent mindfulness training workshops experienced improvement in their mood after eight weeks, on par with the effect seen with prescription medications.

“By teaching people to respond to stressful situations more reflectively rather than reflexively, mindfulness practices can effectively counter experiential avoidance strategies, which are often attempts to alter the intensity or frequency of unwanted internal experiences,” said Paul Jozsef, principal psychotherapist at Paul Jozsef Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Through the treatment of stress and anxiety with mindfulness practices, Jozsef claims that his clients are more resilient and better able to navigate the daily ups and downs of everyday life.

Northern Red Sea coral reefs may survive a hot, grim future

Feb 22, 2019

EILAT, Israel — As the outlook for coral reefs across a warming planet grows grimmer, scientists in Israel have discovered a rare glimmer of hope: The corals of the northern Red Sea may survive, and even thrive, into the next century. There is broad scientific consensus that the effects of climate change have devastated the world's reefs, recently ravaging large swaths of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, one of the natural wonders of the world. The carbon dioxide that humans pump into the atmosphere spikes the temperature and acidity of seawater, which both poisons the marine invertebrates and hampers...

First private Israel lunar mission to be launched this week

Feb 22, 2019

RAMAT GAN, Israel — A nonprofit Israeli consortium said Monday that it hopes to make history this week by launching the first private aircraft to land on the moon. SpaceIL and state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries told a news conference that the landing craft — dubbed "Beresheet," or Genesis — will take off from Florida, propelled by a SpaceX Falcon rocket on its weekslong voyage to the moon. The launch is scheduled late Thursday in the United States, early Friday in Israel. It had been originally slated for last December. SpaceIL CEO Ido Anteby and Opher Doron, general manager of the...

Abu Dhabi arms fair opens amid Yemen war criticism

Feb 22, 2019

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The United Arab Emirates' yearslong war in Yemen alongside Saudi Arabia bled into the start of a biennial Abu Dhabi arms fair Sunday, which saw the Emirates sign $1.3 billion in weapons deals. One manufacturer displayed a model of a machine gun on sale that's now in the hands of Emirati-backed militiamen in Yemen, while the armored personnel carriers and tanks used in the war in the Arab world's poorest country also could be seen at the show. Even the military show that began the fair included troops raiding a militant hideout equipped with...

Etihad restructures plane purchases amid fiscal turbulence

Feb 22, 2019

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways said Thursday it has restructured planned airplane purchases from both Airbus and Boeing as the government-owned carrier struggles through serious financial turbulence. Once making headlines in 2013 for fleet purchases valued at $67 billion, Etihad has seen its strategy of rapidly buying stakes in other airlines to expand its global footprint expose it to major losses. In its last two reported financial years alone, the airline hemorrhaged nearly $3.5 billion in losses. Full-year results for 2018 for the company are expected in the summer. In its statement, Etihad said that it...

Archaeologists discover ancient workshop in Egypt's Sinai

Feb 22, 2019

CAIRO — Egypt says archaeologists have uncovered an ancient workshop used to build and repair ships that dates back to the Ptolemaic era (332 B.C.-30 B.C.) in the Sinai Peninsula. The Antiquities Ministry says Tuesday that excavations took place in the Tel Abu Saifi archaeological site in Northern Sinai. The site is said to have been the location of the Roman fortress of Silla. Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, says the workshop includes two dry dockyards where ships were built or repaired. The Greco-Roman period in Egypt spans from its fall to Alexander the Great...
